The Commission Process - Why It Matters
Why the Process Matters
A custom watch should be more than a combination of parts.
Without a defined approach, decisions are often driven by availability rather than design—resulting in builds that lack cohesion, proportion, or long-term reliability.
At Forge & Crown, every commission follows a structured process.
This ensures that each component is selected and assembled with a clear purpose, so the final watch functions as a complete, integrated timepiece.
A Watch Built Around Your Vision
Every Forge & Crown watch is built around your vision—from the first conversation to the finished timepiece.
How a Custom-Forged Timepiece Begins
Every commissioned watch at Forge & Crown starts with a conversation. Not a form. Not a configurator. A direct exchange about what you want the watch to be—how it should look, how it should wear, and what it should mean.
We work with a small number of commissions at a time. That is intentional. It allows us to give each project the attention it deserves and to make decisions that serve the watch, not a production schedule.
Step 1: The Consultation
The process begins when you book a consultation through our commission page. During this conversation, we discuss your preferences across every major component—case style, dial design, hands, finishing, bracelet or strap, and movement selection.
There are no predetermined packages. Each commission is built from a considered set of choices made specifically for your project.
Step 2: Design and Specification
Once we understand your vision, we develop a full specification for the watch. This includes movement selection from our curated range of Japanese, Swiss, and Chinese calibers, component sourcing, finishing approach, and an estimated production timeline.
You will review and approve the specification before any work begins. Nothing moves forward without your confirmation.
Step 3: Build and Finishing
With the specification confirmed, we source and assemble your components with attention to fit, finish, and proportion. Every Forge & Crown watch is inspected before it leaves our hands.
Finishing details—brushed or polished surfaces, dial printing, and case treatment—are handled with the same care applied to watches at significantly higher price points.
Step 4: Delivery
Your completed timepiece is packaged and shipped with full documentation. We remain available after delivery for any questions about care, servicing, or adjustment.
What to Expect
Commission timelines vary depending on component availability and project complexity. We provide honest estimates at the specification stage and communicate clearly if anything changes.
Pricing is determined by the components and finishing selected. We discuss cost openly during the consultation so there are no surprises.
Begin Your Commission
If you are ready to start—or simply want to understand what is possible—the first step is a conversation.
